Spring 2011 saw an unprecedented event in the spanish football scene. Probably the two most famous football clubs in the world, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona played four consecutive games in a three week time frame.
Bwin, as main sponsor for one of those clubs, wanted to launch a very special campaing that could unite every football fan around a site of their own. So we met with the people at El Laboratorio and started brainstorming some ideas following the claim their creative team had in mind: make people bet their facebook status.
Decisions where taken to create a facebook app that could do so with the simplest functionality possible. We didn´t want to distract the users with anything else, we wanted them to bet which team would win the next game, risking their own facebook status plus getting an option to gain control over their friends statuses if they won.
During the three weeks, the status of 55.000 facebook users went nuts! They revealed untold secrets to all their friends! They declared unconfessed loves, they gave their cars and iPads away. Their facebook status spoke with a new voice that wasn´t their own, as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona were playing for two national titles and for the Champions League.
